Serum Amyloid A (SAA)
The Serum Amyloid A family of acute phase proteins are named because of their immunological and biochemical similarity to Amyloid A, the fibril protein in reactive systemic amyloidosis. The liver produces several different isoforms of SAA following stimulation by immune system modulators including interleukin-1, interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor. In its native form, SAA generally consists of a 104-amino-acid polypeptide (12kd) in association with the HDL 3 subclass of plasma lipoproteins. Circulating SAA concentrations may increase up to 1000-fold following inflammation, infection, tissue injury and cell necrosis and decline rapidly following recovery.

Phase SAA Assay (cat. no. TP-802)
This assay is designed to detect Serum Amyloid A (SAA) in serum or plasma from a range of species A modified version of this product can also be used to detect Amyloid A in milk (See below: MAA Assay Kit) The SAA assay is multi-species, however a specific Murine SAA assay kit is also available (See below: SAA Murine Assay Kit). A modified version of the kit may also be used to detect SAA in cell culture supernatant - this requires a different verison of the kit available to order from Tridelta: please note the standard SAA kit is not suitable for cell culture supernatant assay
The Tridelta PhaseTM range SAA kit is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA). A monoclonal antibody specific for SAA has been coated onto the wells of the microtitre strips provided. Samples, including standards of known SAA content,are added into microwells along with anti-SAA monoclonal antibody. Any SAA present in the well is both captured on the plate by the immobilized antibody and labelled with the conjugate antibody in a one step procedure. After washing to remove all of the unbound material, TMB substrate solution is added. The intensity of the colour produced is proportional to the concentration of SAA present in the original specimen.

Phase SAA Murine Assay Kit (cat.no. TP-802M)
Utilizing the same assay principle and methodology as the multispecies SAA kit, however this kit is specifically for mice. The SAA exhibited by mice is of a different structure to that detected by the SAA multispecies kit and therefore a specific mouse kit is required for this species.

Phase MAA Assay Kit (cat. no. TP-807)
This assay is designed to detect Amyloid A in milk (MAA) Amyloid A is one of the first proteins generated in milk following infection of the mammary gland .The concentration of MAA may increase up to 1000-fold following localised inflammation and has been shown to decline rapidly following recovery. As a result it provides a useful marker for the detection of mastitis, both clinical and sub-clinical.
